LAST POSTING ON JONATHAN

Please note that information on Jonathan's continuing progress will now be found at :

www.edinburghfreechurchcontinuing.com

We feel part of a circle of friends who have joined together in their love for the Rimmer family with prayers for Jonathan's recovery. Thank you to you all.

This blog shall now revert to being a family blog. You are welcome to have a peep now and then, if you wish!

WALKING BETTER

Saturday 20th March. Jonathan is settling in to his new surroundings and shows his determination to progress in his walking skills. He is receiving physiotherapy twice an day, and his walking is improving.

Tuesday 16 March 2010

NEAR HOME!

Tuesday 16th. Things have suddenly come together for Jonathan to be moved! By now he should be in a rehabilitation centre about 6 miles from his home! Also, his walking is improving day by day. How much for which to be thankful.

The family will testify to having experienced, during these last weeks, the truth of the verse in Deuteronomy 33: 27:

"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms".

WALKING A BIT FURTHER

Monday 15th March. Still no word of a move for Jonathan, but yesterday he walked to the shower with a bit of assistance. This must be so encouraging both for himself and the family.

Friday 12 March 2010

STARTING TO WALK

Friday 12th March. There is still no news of Jonathan being transferred south. However he did make a journey of his own today, walking, with help, from his bed to the door and back again. His progress is remarkable.

NOT GOING YET!

Wednesday 10th March. Peter is one of our elders and has a loving concern for young people.

Today we learn that Jonathan is "too well" to be moved to where they the doctors had in mind! Instead he will be transferred somewhere else when a place becomes vacant for him, which will most likely be next week.

GOOD APPETITE!

Tuesday 9th March. Doesn't this picture do your heart good? We went ourselves to the hospital today, although Bill felt he shouldn't go in to the ward because of his cold. There was more good news to hear on Jonathan's progress. He has been moved further away from the nurses' station which means he does not need so much attention. He has a voracious appetite, eating what is brought to him and all the extras that his mother is bringing in for him! And, best of all, there are arrangements being made for him to be moved south in a day or two. At the moment a hospital in Salford is being talked about.

This will entail a long journey for Jonathan with 1 or 2 moves from one ambulance to another. Please pray for strength. Remember Philip and Gillian also as they will need time to transfer belongings from Edinburgh to Bolton. Continue to remember Samuel who has a very heavy workload at school at the moment.

The family are very encouraged by the friends who have been visiting the hospital. They were very heartened yesterday by a visit from the Head of Studies of Jonathan's course. They are most appreciative to the many people who keep abreast with news of Jonathan's progress and have a deep concern for them all as a family.

VISITORS

Monday 8th. Jonathan had the tracheostomy removed on Saturday so that is another good step forward. The doctors hope to get a zimmer for him soon and encourage his walking. Some of his friends have been visiting him and he and they have enjoyed the visits.
Philip is in Bolton with Samuel.

WONDERFUL NEWS

Saturday 6th March. This is a wonderful day, and we thank God for it!

Jonathan has made further progress. His speech continues to improve. The Speech Therapist was in to see him and is pleased with him. The nurses are pleased because he is now starting to eat solid food. The tracheostomy should be removed sometime soon. The consultant who first operated on Jonathan and was very grave about his prospects is "pleased to be proved wrong" and that he is "almost 100% certain" that Jonathan will walk again.

Jonathan has become very close to Mr. Gracie and has written him a letter! Jonathan's own faith is shining through in his situation, and that is encouraging.

Mr. and Mrs. Rimmer have applied for a Rehabilitation Centre in Bolton where they hope Jonathan may be able to go in the not too far future. Remember them all as they continue to hope and make tentative plans, but leaving the results in the Lord whom they trust.

"PRAY FOR ME"

Thursday 4th March. Jonathan is settled into the neurological ward, and doing well. He has responded well to some tests that the consultant was giving him. He has actually eaten some pureed food, feeding himself!

By the time Mr. Gracie arrived at the hospital tonight the visiting time was just about up and Jonathan's Dad was on his way out. "You must go in", he said, "He has been asking for you!" When Mr. Gracie got to the bedside Jonathan said, "I want you to pray for me" which Mr. Gracie did. Then Jonathan said, "You pray just like my Dad".

Jonathan is now breathing on his own, although the tracheostomy is still in place as a precaution. Please check what the visiting hours are if you want to go and see him.

Tuesday 2 March 2010

BACK TO WESTERN

Tuesday p.m. Jonathan was moved back to the Western tonight and is in the neurological ward. Philip hopes to come back to Edinburgh tomorrow. Please pray for a good journey for him. Remember Samuel at school.

Monday 1 March 2010

X-RAYS

Monday p.m. Joanathan has had a good day. Yesterday he spent some hours in a chair, and his speech is firmer and clearer. He is a bit restless. Today he had x-rays to see how his lungs are doing but he seems to have got over the operation well. If the x-rays are satisfactory he should soon be moved back to the Western and into the neurological ward. Then it will be possible to visit him within the alloted hours.

At present Philip is in Bolton with Samuel. It is a wearying time for the family; please pray for strength for them.

As long as things continue smoothly there will not be a further posting until Jonathan has been moved back to the Western. Thank you to all who are praying and wishing him well.
