HONEYMOON COTTAGE

We paid a return visit to the cottage on the Island of Skye where we went for our honeymoon 48 years ago! The weather had been wet and we were thrilled when the clouds rolled away and the sun came out.

Here is the old photo taken July 1964! There was no kitchen  and the toilet was in the outbuildings 50 feet away (the one with the roof!)

To get to this idyllic spot you have to travel 7 miles from the main road on Skye on a seriously narrow one that twists and climbs before it finally descends into the small Community of Kylerhea.

Our cottage was called"half of one" being the dividing up of the property between 2 sons. Look at the transformation!

Hmmm Not much done here!

We picked up our friend Margo who was making a short stay with her son and family who live in one of the Kylerhea cottages, to bring her back to Edinburgh with us.

Margo, well-informed as she is in local lore, told us that when there was a funeral, the custom was for the cortege coming from Kylrhea to stop by this big stone and and rest after the climb  and then make the descent to Broadford.

PASTORAL

It's rather nice, because, despite living in the "Central Belt" where the densest population is, a short drive takes us into the country. Saturday saw us travelling just a few miles south and before long we were among the gentle hills and rolling fields. The earth seemed expectant, with buds fattening on the trees and bushes and, yes, lambs!! Spring is really here.

God, who covereth the heaven with clouds,
who prepareth rain for the earth,
who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse, he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

AFTERNOON OFF

It's a beautiful day. We take the afternoon off and drive to the other side of the Forth and enjoy our picnic lunch at Limekilns.

The views arround are all beautiful.

This handsome fellow is looking his best in his Spring plumage.

We went to the island of Skye for the weekend, to preach and to do some psalm-singing There had been torrential rain in many places. A glimpse of the rainbow reminds us of God's Covenant promises. We stayed in the manse in Snizort, very near the sea with beautiful views on all sides.
