REST AND STRENGTH REQUIRED

Sun. p.m. We are relieved that tonight Jonathan remains stable. Let us pray for good sleep and rest for his loved ones. Pray also for strength for Mr. Gracie who is regularly at the hospital to bring comfort and care to Mr. and Mrs . Rimmer.

BRAIN PRESSURE DOWN

Sun. a.m. Jonathan is stable and comfortable this morning. The brain pressure is back down and the doctors are pleased with that. They will now leave him for 48 or 72 hours before starting to bring him out of the coma. Yesterday was a hard day for his parents. Thank you to all who are praying. It is such a support for the family.

"LONG HAUL"

Sat. 11.15 p.m. Jonathan is now settled back into the ward with the blood-clot removed. The doctors have had a long talk with Mr. & Mrs Rimmer and have warned them that it is going to be a "long haul".
Do continue to pray for this dear family, that they will be given strength and grace for the days ahead.

NOT SERIOUS

Sat. 9.00p.m. One of the nurses caring for Jonathan explained to his parents that apparently the clot was not serious and in many ways expected, but the removing of it should help to bring down the brain pressure which has been fluctuating. Jonathan had not yet returned from theatre at 8.30.

SCAN

Sat 3.15 p.m. A scan has shown a clot on Jonathan's brain. He will undergo surgery this afternoon to relieve it. The family would value your continued prayers.

SEVEN DAYS

Sat.1200 noon. Jonathan continues stable. He is not as asleep as the doctors thought and they want to increase his sedation for a while. Brain pressure is up to 28. For Jonathan at this time they want it below 25. It is not untoward for this to happen 7 days after such injuries have happened. He is also to have a scan today just to check the condition of the brain.
One of the families in the congregation have invited Samuel to join them for the afternoon.

GOOD NIGHT

Fri 2.30 p.m. Jonathan had a reasonably good night. There is less puffiness in his face which the doctors say is a good sign. If a blood test shows that the chest infection is clearing then they will start to bring him out of the coma.

SMELLS

Thurs. 10.00p.m. We were in at the hospital earlier this evening. We did not see Jonathan but spent a little time with his parents and Samuel. They are very appreciative of praying friends who are supporting them at this most difficult time.

Jonathan has a chest infection, which apparently can happen in these kind of circumstances. The doctors have been careful to identify the infection in order to give the correct medication and this has required 24 hours. In the meantime Jonathan was back on his usual sedation. His brain pressure is stable.

It was touching to learn from his mother that she has been asked to bring in his toilet bag. This is so that he can get the smells that he is used to, and so stimulate the brain. What amazing bodies the Lord has given us!

NO CHANGE

Thurs. 10.00 a.m. Jonathan's temperature was up a bit this morning. Otherwise no change.

ENCOURAGING SIGNS

Wed. 12.30. Sedation was withdrawn from Jonathan yesterday during the day and again this morning. The family are greatly encouraged that, when the doctors have touched Jonathan, he has responded by movement. He is not yet responding to spoken words. Rev. Mr. Gracie took Samuel to our home for lunch to give him a break from the hospital. He is doing well under the strain. This afternoon the doctors will meet to discuss Jonathan's case.

STILL STABLE

Wed. 9.30 a.m. Jonathan still stable after sedation was withdrawn yesterday. It is stll a very critical time.

BEING TAKEN OFF SEDATION

Jonathan has been taken off sedation this afternoon to see how his body reacts. That will help the doctors to understand his condition. Minister and elders are paying brief visits just to assure his parents and brother of the prayers of the congregation and of many other friends. The ward does not encourage visitors other than close family.

PRAY FOR JONATHAN

Please pray for Jonathan Rimmer, an English student who has been studying in Edinburgh and attending our congregation there. He is a lovely gentle Christian young man, liked by everyone who knows him. Very early on 24th January Jonathan was hit by a taxi while walking back to his flat after visiting a friend. He sustained serious head injuries and is now in a critical condition in the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. His parents and younger brother, Samuel, are with him.
